Tuned a perfect fifth below a standard guitar, the baritone guitar delivers a rich lower register while maintaining excellent note definition. Its sound occupies a fascinating space between the depth of a bass guitar and the melodic versatility of an electric guitar.
One of the most interesting aspects of Velvet Guitars Fragment is its attention to playing articulations. Alongside sustained notes, the library includes muted performances, a dedicated legato system, and sampled dead notes that introduce rhythmic detail and expressive nuances. These possibilities allow musicians to move naturally between simple melodic phrases and harmonic accompaniment while preserving the organic response of a real instrument.
Particular attention has been given to the amplification chain. The instrument allows users to blend the distinctive characteristics of two sampled vintage amplifiers, each contributing its own tonal personality. Even more interesting is the inclusion of an authentic spring reverb, recorded directly through the amplifiers rather than recreated using a digital algorithm. Each sample was captured in four variations, combining both amplifiers with dry and reverb recordings. This approach preserves the natural dynamics, subtle imperfections, and unmistakable character of the original hardware.
The sound-shaping possibilities are further enhanced by a tremolo inspired by classic American amplifier circuits from the 1960s. Both speed and depth can be adjusted, with tempo synchronization available for rhythmic consistency. Additional reverb processing provides further control over the instrument’s spatial dimension, making it particularly effective for atmospheric and cinematic productions.
Velvet Guitars Fragment is especially well suited to film scoring, ambient music, indie productions, and compositions requiring intimate, evocative guitar textures. The extended lower register makes it possible to create distinctive harmonic foundations, while the available articulations and legato functionality support expressive melodic performances.
From a technical perspective, the library features 24-bit, 48 kHz samples and requires approximately 5.82 GB of disk space. It is compatible with Kontakt 8.5.1 and later, including the free Kontakt Player, and supports Native Instruments’ NKS 2 standard.
